2021 Winter – Argumentation Writing for Middle Schooler

Develop your writing skills as early as possible!

Becoming a good writer in middle school makes high school writing infinitely easier.

Argumentation is the name of the game. In today’s society, it’s all about how well you can convince others that you’re valuable and your ideas are valuable. The ability to convince others has never been as important as it is now as everybody seeks to influence people and create networks. This class will establish the little tips and tricks that many people use in order to do exactly that.

This class will be 12 weeks of learning how to make points in a way that is effective and convincing.  It requires the student to investigate a topic; collect, generate, and evaluate evidence; and establish a position on the topic in a concise manner. Additionally, there will be 3-4 weeks devoted to the art of satire, and why it’s so powerful.

Key focus areas:

  1. Develop a solid outline
  2. Create a line of reasoning
  3. Address and counter the opposition

This course will also cover the basics: grammar, spelling, and so on.
