2021 Summer – Genre Writing for Elementary Students


Exposure to a wide variety of genres opens up new worlds for readers and writers.

In addition, learning different reading and writing strategies for different genres, like narrative or persuasive writing, helps students recognize and write for different purposes and audiences.

This course will explicitly coach students to recognize, appreciate, and use the structures and syntax of various genres.

Learning various genre specific attributes helps students comprehend and use various kinds of information in their writing ultimately strengthening their verbal reasoning skills.

Mr McKinnon has been an educator in the K-12 and Higher Education environment for the last 10 years both domestically in the US and Internationally. Mr McKinnon holds a BA in Communications for Oakland University and a Master of Science degree in Teaching English Language Learners from Syracuse University. Currently, Patrick is an Instructional Designer at Syracuse University where he designs and develops online courses at the University and K-12 levels.
