The Power of DEBATE
Debate is the activity that brings the art of reading, thinking and speaking together in one place. Debate is a valuable activity to create leaders. Leading requires intelligence, vision, empathy, efficiency, and resolve. Participating in and studying debate cultivates these essential leadership skills in youth.
What will you learn?
- Basic presentational skills
- The difference between persuading and informing
- How to construct persuasive arguments
- Basic research skills to provide support for arguments, along with an introduction to logical reasoning.
Ms. Nierman
My name is Ms. Nierman and I will be teaching this public speaking/speech class. I am a 4th grade teacher at a local school and have been a part of the speech community for 13 years. I debated in high school and college and currently coach high school debate, as well as judge forensics. I am always up for learning and trying new things; food, places, and hobbies.
