Middle school marks a student’s transition into a new world of writing.
There will always be a place for fairy tales and bedtime stories, but middle school introduces a sense of professionalism and maturity that accompanies young adult literature.
This is a time to maximize writing’s potential as an effective communication tool in spreading knowledge and perspectives. It’s a time to learn the ins and outs of research, investigate the intentions behind literature, and explore beyond the surface of an author’s words. As students gain more exposure to the “real world,” having a solid basis in writing is crucial to not only helping kids understand the world, but contribute to it.
In this course, students will intertwine both innovative and critical thinking as they analyze sources, form arguments, interpret texts, and collaborate with peers.
