Program Fee*: $1280 (average $85 per day)

*Program fee covers the cost of the transportation, lodging, meals, tickets and insurance incurred in China. Airfare and Chinese visa fees are not included. For financial aid, please send an email to grace.cai@gsc-llc.com

Age of volunteers: 15 or older

Final team size: 13 students and three adult chaperones. All applicants will be interviewed to be selected for final team. Chaperones’ program fee will be waived.

Language: Speaking Mandarin is a plus but not required

Teaching subjects: STEAM education projects, along with musical and outdoor activities. Volunteers are required to attend four mandatory training sessions prior to departure.

  • Community service: students will spend an estimated 60–100 hours on volunteer work. At the end of the program, students will receive a certificate stating the number of service hours completed.

About Zhejiang

Zhejiang is one of China’s most affluent and most densely populated provinces. In 2017, Zhejiang’s provincial gross domestic product (GDP) reached RMB 5.2 trillion (823 Billion USD), the fourth highest in China. It has population around 55.64 million. Zhejiang’s main manufacturing sectors are electromechanical industries, textiles, chemical industries, food, and construction materials.

Itinerary – 15 days

From July 14 – July 28, 2019

Day 1 – July 14:

Group arrives in Shanghai.

Day 2 – July 15:

Visit China Art Palace which is housed in the former China Pavilion of Expo 2010. It is one of the largest art museums in Asia. Walking along the famous “Bund” – it has been one of the most recognizable symbols and the pride of Shanghai. Tour the City God Temple of Shanghai to learn Chinese culture and taste local cuisine.

Day 3 – July 16:

Visit Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp – Lingang Factory. SAIC is China’s biggest car manufacturer and ranked 36 in top Fortune Global 500. Visit Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center to learn how Shanghai, a small fishing village, became one of the TOP metropolis in the world!

Day 4 – July 17:

Visit The Zijin Town of Zhejiang University which is the essential part of the Western Technology and Innovation Corridor of Hangzhou. Meet with young entrepreneurs from Zhejiang University and Alibaba at Purple Cow Incubator – China National level incubator. Visit Alibaba Cloud, also known as Aliyun, is a Chinese cloud computing company, a subsidiary of Alibaba Group. It is the largest cloud computing company in China.

Day 5 – July 18:

Attend the “International Tech Youth Forum” in Hangzhou. Learn 3D technology and design moon base with local high schools students under the coaching by NASA specialist. Visit West Lake & Zhejiang Provincial Museum  – it is considered as the most important art museum in the West Lake area of Hangzhou.

Day 6 – July 19:

Arrive Yiwu Market and meet up with the local entrepreneurs. Yiwu Market is rated as the world largest wholesale market of general merchandise by United Nations, The World Bank, and Morgan Stanley.

Day 7 – July 20:

Arrive in Yueqing and attend local Charity event to teach local students about STEAM.

Day 8 – July 21:

Dongtou Islands Cultural Excursion: learn crab shell painting, fishing, making local food, and touring Wanghai Tower. The 35-meter-tall tower is Dongtou’s landmark and its top floor offers the best view in the county: a 360 degree view of ocean and islands.

Day (9-13) – July (22-26):

Voluntarily teaching at Dongtou No.1 High School

Day 14 – July 27:

Attend the “International Tech Youth Forum” in Wenzhou.

Day 15 – July 28:

Conclude the trip in Shanghai
